The cricket career of Bob Parish commenced as a first eleven player with Prahran in 1935 and he represented the club with distinction for the next 14 years, including the honour of captain from 1943-49.
Upon joining the club's committee in only his second year as a senior player, Mr Parish immediately immersed himself in the administration of the game, and in 1950 he was elected as a delegate to the Victorian Cricket Association. This was a position he was to hold for the next 42 years, becoming the equal second longest serving Club representative in the Association's history.
After his election as a delegate, Mr Parish was elected President of Prahran CC in 1955, a position held until retirement in 1982, being only one of four presidents in the long history of the Prahran CC.
After his introduction to the VCA as a delegate, he was elected to the VCA executive Committee in 1954, a position he retained to the end of 1991/92, with the last 29 years as Chairman.
In 1957 he was elected as one of Victoria's representatives to the Australian Cricket Board, retiring from the Board in 1990 after 33 years of distinguished service as one of the most influential, dedicated and respected sporting administrators in this country. At 41 he was the youngest person on the board when he first became a Victorian Rep in 1957.
He was Chairman for a three year period from 1966 to 1969 and returned for a second five year term from 1975-1980. His clear thinking, excellent memory, attention to detail and open mindedness made him as astute and respected administrator at an international, national, state and club level. He was also manager of the 1965 Australian tour of the West Indies and the 1968 Tour of England.
Victorian cricket will forever be in the debt of Bob. He has been at the forefront of many initiatives and developments associated with Victorian and Australian cricket and has been largely responsible over the past 50 years for enhancing Victoria's reputation not only in Australian cricket but throughout the international cricket fraternity.
