It gives me great pleasure and excitement to announce that Julien Wiener, former Test cricketer, Life Member and Club Legend has been appointed Men's Head Coach for the next three years.
Julien’s cricket journey with Prahran started in the mid ‘70’s as a schoolboy from Brighton Grammar School. He played 102 games for for the club and has now completed a full circle to return in the role of head coach.
Along the way he made his debut for Victoria in 1977-78, scoring a hundred on debut and adding another three hundreds in his first two seasons. His First Class career finished in 1984-85 by which time he had compiled 3609 runs at an average of 30.32. He claimed seven centuries with a highest score of 221 not out. His right-arm offies were another useful string to his bow.
As an opening batsman Julien played six Tests and seven one-dayers, making his debut for Australia against England in 1979-80. . He played four Tests against England and West Indies that season, with one half-century, and was included on the tour to Pakistan at the end of the summer, playing two more Tests.
With the club now having completed the development of our three year strategic plan, and with a number of significant infrastructure developments already in progress, there couldn’t be a better time for Julien to return to his natural cricket home and be closely involved with enabling and delivering a successful, sustainable future for the club.
Julien impressed our Interview panel through a series of interviews over the last few weeks. He will report to Bryce McGain in his new capacity as Cricket Operations Manager. Bryce will work with Julien in finalising his coaching structure over the remainder of the month and we expect to outline the full coaching structure for the coming season soon.
Julien is "very much looking forward to being part of the club again, working hard with the players to build their skills, challenging them to do better and making sure we have lots of fun together”.
We look forward to welcoming Julien back to the club.
