We are saddened to note of the passing of Life Member, Hall of Fame Member and 1954/55 First Eleven premiership player, Bruce Bedwell (13/12/1928 – 09/09/2018).
Bruce wore cap number 273 and was an attacking right hand middle order batsman, an outstanding fielder, and a most likeable gentleman.
Upon his retirement from Prahran Bruce then led both the Malvern and Dandenong VSDCA clubs respectively as their Captain/Coach, providing leadership over a period of many years.
Bruce was an extremely talented baseball player and also an honoured Life Member with the Prahran baseball club (in later years called Prahran-Cheltenham). He then received the same distinction at the prestigious Yarra Yarra Golf Club where he was also Club Captain. An outstanding all-round sportsman.
Ian Crawford was invited by the Bedwell family to participate in the funeral service eulogy, on behalf of Prahran Cricket Club, and Bruce’s former teammate Col Hyland was also in attendance.
To wife Norma, sons Anthony and David together with their respective families we extend our deepest sympathy.
Vale Bruce Bedwell.
