Sad news to hear of the premature passing of JE (Joey) Benjamin on the 8 March from a heart attack. Joey was 61.
Born in St Kitts in 1961, Joey's family moved to England when he was a youngster where he played out an 11 season First Class career from 1988 to 1999, initially with Warwickshire and finally with Surrey.
Along the way he collected 387 First Class wickets with his right-arm in and out-swingers and an action characterised by whirling arms and energy.
In 1994, at the age of 33 Benjamin was selected for his only Test for England, against South Africa at The Oval, where he picked up the tidy figures of 4/42. He also played 2 ODIs for England.
Joey was True Blues player Number 463 and played 2 seasons at Prahran from 1992/93 to 1993/94. A key part of the bowling attack he claimed 42 wickets at 20.57 with best bowling of 5/31.
Rest in peace Joey, gone way too soon.
