Prahran have a total of six players in the UK this winter
Dave Hussey – returned to Nottinghamshire after an outstanding 2004 season leading the team’s promotion to the Division 1 in both the County Championship and One-Day Competitions, after arriving as a replacement for the injured Damien Martin. And what a fill-in he turned out to be scoring 1315 1st Class runs @ 69.21. This is his first year of a two year deal he signed with Notts at the conclusion of his great season.
Huss has opened the 2005 County Championship season outstandingly well with a 118 & 57 against Middlesex at the Home of Cricket, Lords; backed it up with an 89 in a 10 wicket victory over Sussex, and belted a rapid 74 off 66 balls in Notts match winning total of 7dec 692, off only 134 overs, in its innings defeat of Surrey. He is playing with New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. Click the link for the 2005 Nottinghamshire fixture and results: Hussey at Notts
Jon Moss – like fellow Prahran team-mate Hussey, has returned to his county Derbyshire on the first of a two year deal. Moss left for the UK with his first-class future in Australia a little uncertain, requesting a release from his Victorian contract to enable him to return to his home town of Sydney to begin a family with his Sydney wife Lori. All has now been settled and Moss will continue his career in Victoria which is great news for Prahran and the supporters who enjoy watching his all-round talents at Toorak Park (and the MCG / Junction Oval for the Bushrangers).
Derbyshire has started the season a little slow with it’s only win coming in the Cheltenham and Gloucester One-Day Cup. Mossy notched up an undefeated 109 against Oxford UCCE, including 18 fours and a six. The 2005 Derbyshire fixture and results link: Moss at Derby
Chris Garcia – the left-arm quick is returning to the Henfield Cricket Club based in the South of England for his third season in a row. Chris is a key player for the club, as Henfield aim to achieve promotion into the division 1 competition of the Sussex Invitation league. Gus is expecting big things with the ball and his flashing Viking blade, as he is aiming to top the 100 wickets in a season which has been alluding him . Follow his results on: Garcia at Henfield
Steven De Bolfo – returning to England after a very productive 2004 for North Wales club St Asaph. This season Bolf has been lured to the Redcar Cricket Club in the North Yorkshire South Duhram Premier league. Bolf will be joining a side which has finished mid table last year in a competitive competition which has had a history for importing high profile players. Follow his results on: De Bolfo at Redcar
Callum Appleyard – the young quick was a key component in Prahran’s only final appearance last season, and bowled himself to exhaustion in the 4th XI final. He should expect more of the same as he joins his club down in Essex on his first trip to the UK. We wish Callum all the best as he has decided to stick around in the mother country after the season has ended.
Chris Williamson – took up the professional position at the Collingham Cricket Club in Nottinghamshire, close to Prahran team-mate Dave Hussey. No doubt many mid-week afternoons will be enjoyed at Trent Bridge watching Huss in action. Willow will be sure to be bowling plenty of overs of leg-spin, given that English players don’t experience many good leggies, and his club will be expecting plenty of runs as well.
