The Prahran Cricket Club's 2nd XI were gallant in defeat as they succumbed to the might Melbourne CC combination in the Grand Final at Princes Park.

Melbourne won the toss and decided to bat.  After their top order looked settled, Adam Drinkwell and Jack Jarvis ripped thru the middle order and had the Demons on their knees at 6/127.  Unfortunately, this was the closest that the boys got to holding the premiership flag.  A 146-run seventh wicket partnership set up the Demons and they were 8/320 at stumps after 100 overs.  They resumed on Day 2 and completed their innings with an additional 10 overs to be 9/346 dec.

Due to the unbalanced rules, the Prahran boys only had 87 overs to make the runs.  They had to score at virtually 4 runs an over compared to Melbourne's rate of 3.1 runs an over.  The Prahran boys were virtully forced to play with one hand tied behind their back !

After a shaky start, Steve De Bolfo (38) and Liam Murphy (35) settled down and had the scoreboard ticking over.  Unfortunately this was the only substantial partneship of the innngs and after they departed, wickets fell regularly as the boys tried to keep ahead of the required run rate.  Young Brad Rossborough showed he is a player of the future, top scoring with 46 runs and building a couple of small partnerships along the way.  In the end, the Prahran innings closed after 73.1 overs with the score at 206, all out.

The boys put in a great effort, but unfortunately, with thereduced number of oversto face, were forced to play virtuallyTwenty20 style cricket to try and win the premiership.

Nevertheless, comgratulations to Melbourne on a well performed effort to take out the premiership.
