One of Prahran Cricket Club’s favourite sons, Dav Whatmore, returned to Toorak Park this afternoon to watch proceedings in the Prahran vs Northcote match before heading back to India and his latest coaching assignment.
Dav was accompanied by his wife Kathy and daughter Alexi and was warmly welcomed to the famous ground by current President Phil Williamson and Immediate Past President Ian Crawford. Dav was also pleased to be able to again renew acquaintances with Club identity David Jukes – Mr Jukes as Dav greeted him.
During play in the middle session, he joined the Prahran 1st XI players on their viewing balcony as they watched Steve De Bolfo gradually build his innings, which eventually led to his first Premier Cricket century.
Whatmore played 221 1st XI matches for Prahran between 1972/73 and 1992/93 inclusive, totalling 7994 runs at an average of 36.50, which included 12 centuries. He also took 41 wickets at 25.39 in addition to his 134 catches. He was captain of Prahran’s last 1st XI Premiership when he made 145 no against Essendon in the 1983/84 Grand Final.
