LAST BALL LOSS HARD to TAKE
Round 2 vs Dandenong
Looking to secure their first match points for the season, Prahran Cricket Club’s 1st XI suffered a last ball loss to Dandenong in their Round 2 clash at Central Reserve, Glen Waverley.
Put in to bat, Matthew Harrison and Liam Murphy got the team off to a steady start with an 61-run opening partnership before Liam was out for 27. Disaster then struch with the loss two quick wickets, including that of Harrison for 28 (3/71). Vinay Parikh and Neil Schlittler then put on a 91-run partnership before Vinay was out for 42 (4/162). Neil, who had helped himself to some big hits was out for 66 which then signalled the loss of a couiple of other wickets as the bottom-half of the batting order tried to increase the teams score. In the end the result was a competative 8/222.
The bowlers were steady as the Dandenong openers slowly started to build a score before Cameron Huckett struck the first blow. Each time, as the Panther batsmen started to build a score, the Prahran bowlers struck, with all getting amongst the wickets. Needing 10 runs off the last over, James Wild was entrusted with the task of containing the big hitting 10-wicket partnership. Dandenong's Chasemore thumped the opening ball for a six, but the opposition still needed two off the final ball. Unfortunately he slammed the last ball over the boundary fence to deny Prahran the win.
